The much-anticipated reopening of Lahore Zoo, originally slated for August 14—Pakistan’s Independence Day—has been postponed once more, leaving visitors waiting as renovation efforts continue.

The zoo, which has been closed for renovations since November 2023, briefly welcomed the public during Eidul Azha. However, ongoing work has pushed back its full reopening.

Adding to the delays, the Zoo Director Azim Zafar has been transferred to Multan, with Sheikh Zahid Iqbal stepping in as the new Director.

The upgrade projects for Lahore Zoo and Safari Park were launched in November 2023 under the caretaker government of Punjab, then led by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Initially, the reconstruction was expected to be completed by January 31, but progress has stalled, and the work remains unfinished.
