WEBDESK: As the world gets ready to ring in 2025, countries across the globe will mark the occasion at different times based on their time zones. While some nations welcome the new year early, others must wait hours before celebrating.
The first to see the arrival of 2025 are countries in the Far East, such as New Zealand, where the new year begins hours before much of the world.
Closer to home, Pakistan will welcome 2025 at 7 PM Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) on December 31, making it one of the earlier countries to celebrate.
India, Pakistan’s neighbour, will celebrate slightly earlier at 6:30 PM GMT, while other regional countries like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Iran will mark the new year at 6:00 PM, 7:30 PM, and 8:30 PM GMT, respectively.
Meanwhile, on the opposite end of the timeline, Baker Island and Howland Island, two uninhabited islands southwest of Hawaii, will be the very last to welcome 2025.
Among inhabited regions, the United States, particularly cities like New York and Washington DC, will celebrate at 5 AM GMT on January 1, making them some of the last places to join the global festivities.
