Virender Sehwag slams Wahab Riaz for favouritism in team selection

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag recently criticized Wahab Riaz, a member of the Pakistan cricket selection committee, for alleged favoritism.

Sehwag accused Riaz of using his position to bring players like Mohammad Amir back into the national team.

Sehwag noted the irony, saying, “Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir, who once criticised the Pakistan team on TV, now find themselves in influential positions—one as a selector and the other as a player.”

He questioned the integrity of the selection process under Riaz’s influence and raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest.

Amid growing concerns about the transparency of player selections, Sehwag called on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to ensure decisions are made with the team’s future in mind, free from personal biases.

He drew a comparison to Indian cricket, suggesting that if someone like Ajit Agarkar were the chairman of the BCCI selection committee, he might favour former teammates, saying, “It’s like Agarkar saying ‘come Viru, come Zaheer Khan’ to facilitate their return.”
