Apple to launch foldable iPhone in 2026

As the South Korean tech giant Samsung has already launched foldable smartphones, its rival Apple is also planning to unveil its first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026.

The development came along with the reports that Samsung is preparing its seventh-generation foldable and triple-foldable smartphones.

According to Display analyst Ross Young, Apple’s dominant entry into the market could potentially lead to significant growth for the foldable market in 2026. It could lead to a 30% growth in the segment within the first year of launch, followed by a steady 20% growth in 2027 and 2028.

Although most foldables feature book-style folding mechanisms, Apple is expected to bring a clamshell design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip.

As per the insider reports, the first foldable iPhone could be between 7.9 and 8.3 inches, which would fold in half vertically rather than horizontally, allowing for a full-size iPhone when unfolded, and a smaller, pocketable device when folded.

When will Apple launch a foldable iPhone?

The launch is expected in the second half of 2026 which will drive substantial market growth. Young suggests that the competitors in the industry are reportedly awaiting Apple’s foldable debut, with expectations that it will provide the momentum the market needs.

International media, citing company sources, reported that the foldable iPhone could feature a flexible OLED display that can handle thousands of folds without damage.

The phone will also hold a powerful new chipset, high-end cameras, and a sleek, premium design. Like other iPhones, it is expected to work seamlessly with Apple services like iCloud, Apple Music, and Apple Pay.

Apple’s design is said to feature a “mostly hidden hinge” with the electronics located behind the display rather than two panels separated by a visible hinge.
