LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday summoned the woman who filed a sexual harassment case against Pakistan cricket star Babar Azam for the next hearing on December 12.

The LHC heard the case challenging the trial court’s order to register the case against world’s number one batsman.

Justice Mohammad Waheed Khan issued the order on the petition of former cricket team captain Babar Azam, with Barrister Haris Azmat representing him.

The court extended the stay order on the decision to register the case. The LHC had suspended an order by a sessions court to the FIA to file a case against Babar on March 22, 2021, after Babar Aza’s counsel, told the court that the earlier judgment had been passed without the court having heard the cricketer’s point of view on the matter.

A further hearing of Babar Azam’s petition will take place on December 12.

Hamiza Mukhtar had blamed that she and Babar Azam had a relationship that continued for a long time.

She claimed that she later conceived but Azam had her abort the child, consoling her and promising to marry her, saying it won’t be good for them to have a child before marriage.

Attaching all medical documents to prove her abortion and her relation with Azam, she told the court that she approached the Naseerabad police to have an FIR registered against Azam.

Hamiza accused Babar Azam of coercing her into having an abortion and making false promises of marriage. However, the issue between them was resolved after Azam assured her that he would marry her.

Hamiza claims that she later went again to the police station to file an FIR against Azam, but the authorities appeared reluctant to register the case.

She has now requested the court to direct the concerned authorities to file an FIR against Azam for blackmail and engaging in a sexual relationship with her under the pretense of marriage.

However, the police have since dismissed the allegations of harassment made against Babar Azam.
