WEB DESK: Former Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shahzad has accused certain players of using religion as a shield to evade accountability for the team’s lackluster performance in the T20 World Cup.

Speaking on X platform, Ahmad Shahzad targeted members of the Pakistan cricket team for what he described as misrepresenting their poor performance that led to the team’s early exit from the tournament. Criticism had mounted over the players’ fitness and skills following their disappointing display.

“It is deeply disappointing to see some players deflecting from their dismal World Cup showing by resorting to unnecessary press conferences and invoking religious sentiments. Where does their faith stand when they fabricate fitness claims and admit to acting dishonestly on the field? Does religion endorse deception and falsehood?” Ahmad Shahzad questioned in a scathing social media post.

“Your responsibility is to deliver on the field, not to foster internal factions. Religion teaches us integrity and accountability, not concealing weaknesses with falsehoods,” Shahzad asserted.

The middle-order batsman continued, “Some advocates for these players are lobbying for second chances. But why should they get one? This is the Pakistan team, not a local club where they can play at will. If they desire another opportunity, they should form their own team and compete among peers, not represent Pakistan.”

“We will hold Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi accountable for the significant reforms he promised. Some players are now mocking the chairman’s pledges with impunity, but we are committed to ensuring fans receive the transparency they deserve and that decisive actions are taken against those responsible. We stand firm and will persist until the Pakistan cricket team returns to its rightful path,” Shahzad concluded.
