Administrative delays and heavy rainfall have hindered the distribution of free textbooks to government school students in Sindh, despite the academic year commencing on August 15.

The Sindh government’s initiative, encapsulated in the slogan “Parhay Ga Sindh tau Barhay Ga Sindh” (If Sindh Educates, Sindh Will Prosper), remains unfulfilled for many impoverished families. Parents are facing significant challenges as the promised free textbooks and copies, assured during school admissions, have yet to be delivered.

Each year, low-income families enroll their children in government schools to mitigate education costs, only to encounter repeated disappointments. Although assured of receiving textbooks, many parents are forced to purchase them from the open market at inflated prices to avoid disrupting their children’s education.

Parents have reported that the Directorate of Education has cited the Sindh Textbook Board’s failure to print the textbooks as the reason for the delay. Ironically, while free textbooks remain unavailable in public schools, they are readily available for purchase in the market.
