Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced a groundbreaking initiative by the Sindh government to offer free birth registration services across the province.
This move aims to address critical issues such as child labour, human trafficking, and early marriages by ensuring that every child’s age is officially documented and protected under the law.
The free registration service is expected to significantly enhance the legal protection of children, providing a formal record that can help prevent exploitation and abuse.

In addition to this, Memon highlighted new stringent penalties related to drug-related activities. The provincial cabinet has enacted severe measures, including a seven-year prison term and a fine of Rs500,000 for those involved in cultivating prohibited narcotic crops.
More serious offenses, such as drug manufacturing and using premises for such activities, will incur a punishment of up to 14 years in prison and a Rs2 million fine.
For drug possession, penalties will range from one to seven years of imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs1 million. These stringent measures reflect the recommendations of the Excise and Narcotics Department and aim to combat drug-related crimes more effectively.
