The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad has acquitted 14 individuals, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, in the May 9 cases filed at Thana Khanna.

In the written order, Judicial Magistrate Sohaib Bilal noted that the prosecution’s case was weak and lacked sufficient evidence for conviction.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi was accused of inciting provocation, but the court found that Section 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code, dealing with abetment, did not apply to him since no crime resulted from his alleged incitement.

The court ruled that the evidence did not substantiate the charges against Qureshi or the other accused.

The decision highlighted that charges under Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) and Section 144 were not adequately proven. Furthermore, the complainant was not the District Magistrate, further weakening the prosecution’s case.

Consequently, the court approved the acquittal applications for Qureshi and the other thirteen accused, clearing them of all charges related to the May 9 incidents.
