Unidentified gunmen have killed a senior journalist in the Landi Kotal tehsil of Khyber district, police and family sources reported on Wednesday.
Khalil Jibran was traveling with friends, including a local lawyer, after attending a dinner party in the Mazreena area of Sultan Khel when their vehicle was ambushed by armed assailants on Tuesday evening.
According to the DPO, the journalist’s car broke down near his residence in the Mazreena area. Unidentified gunmen then emerged, dragged him out of the vehicle, and shot him.
Khalil Jibran, a former president of the Landi Kotal Press Club, died instantly. The assailants fled the scene after the attack. Jibran’s friend Sajjad, who was with him, sustained gunshot wounds.
Jibran’s body was transported to a Landi Kotal hospital for medico-legal procedures.
DPO Abbas revealed that Jibran had been receiving threats from terrorists.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur took notice of the incident and ordered the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also condemned the murder.
Media organizations denounced the killing and demanded swift action from the KP government to apprehend the culprits.
