Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar stated on Thursday that the Punjab government may consider referring Imran Khan’s case to a military court if necessary.

In an informal media talk at the Presidency on Thursday, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that the Punjab government is handling the prosecution of the May 9 cases and may decide to refer Imran Khan’s case to a military court if needed.

He added that the case of Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, currently being tried under the Army Act, falls outside the jurisdiction of the Law Ministry.

In response to rumors about potential constitutional amendments, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar confirmed that no surprise legislation is planned. He clarified that any constitutional amendment must be introduced and passed separately in both houses of parliament with a two-thirds majority.

Tarar urged the media to refrain from speculation and act responsibly.

Regarding the potential extension of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s term, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that no such proposal is currently under consideration. He added that the decision on extending the Chief Justice’s term is not within his purview.
