Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a peaceful protest on October 15, coinciding with the first day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
The leadership has directed all organisational officials and wings, from the centre to the grassroots level, to finalize preparations for the D-Chowk protest.
The party leadership has also announced the cancellation of protests in the districts of Punjab to focus on preparations for the event at D-Chowk.
Security tightened in Islamabad ahead of SCO
Security is extremely tight ahead of the SCO summit, as the government has deployed more than 10,000 police and paramilitary personnel for the security of about 900 delegates.
According to the security plan, the security charge at the venue will work closely with the hotels’ management, the Foreign Office, and others for the smooth movement of the delegations.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has asked all government hospitals in Rawalpindi to remain alert.
According to a letter to the hospitals, the Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department said that the federal government asked them to make these arrangements ahead of the SCO moot.
Earlier, an order was issued to close restaurants, wedding halls, cafes, and snooker clubs in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for five days.
However, the district administration later clarifiedthat no orders have been issued by either the federal government or the district authorities regarding the closure of wedding halls, restaurants, or cafes.
The government has already declared a three-day public holiday—October 14-16—in the twin cities to ensure the smooth conduct of the SCO summit.
