WEB DESK: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, has resigned from his position as a member of the Judicial Commission.

He submitted his resignation to the Speaker of the National Assembly, nominating Barrister Gohar to take his place in the commission.

Omar Ayub said that he has decided to resign from the Judicial Commission due to the cases filed against him.

According to Omar Ayub, the current legal channels are a hindrance to the effective performance of the Judicial Commission. It is in the interest of the organisation that I nominate someone else in my place who can give full attention to this important role.

Omar Ayub has requested the Speaker National Assembly to accept my resignation soon and appoint Barrister Gohar as a member of the Judicial Commission.

Imran Khan replaces representatives in Judicial Commission

Sources revealed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan has decided to replace the party’s representatives in the Judicial Commission. From the Senate, Ali Zafar will permanently represent the party, replacing Shibli Faraz. For the National Assembly seat, either Barrister Gohar or Latif Khosa is expected to assume the role.

The sources further disclosed that both Ayub and Faraz are facing multiple legal cases, prompting the leadership change. It was indicated that Ayub might return to the Judicial Commission once he secures bail in his pending cases.

Context of the Judicial Commission membership

Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz were appointed to the Judicial Commission following the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which facilitated the inclusion of opposition leaders from the National Assembly and Senate in the commission.

This reshuffle reflects PTI’s strategy to address ongoing legal challenges and ensure uninterrupted representation in the commission.
