Tensions flared between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI leader Hammad Azhar during a political committee meeting on Monday.
The disagreement arose over the timing of a protest planned at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, coinciding with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
Gandapur urged postponing the protest, criticising Azhar for pushing workers to the frontlines while hiding himself. “I’ve come to Islamabad twice, yet Punjab’s leadership has been absent. KP workers need protection as many assembly members are under arrest,” Gandapur asserted.
Azhar rebuked the allegations, vowing to lead the protest from Punjab, and urged Gandapur to maintain decorum, calling for a more “ethical and civilised” discourse.
The altercation was diffused by senior leadership, and the committee eventually decided to postpone the protest, with a majority opposing the October 15 demonstration.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan declined to comment on the exchange but expressed concern over internal leaks from party meetings.
