Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT MM1, successfully becomes operational.

Pakistan has marked a significant milestone in its space and digital development with the successful operationalisation of its first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT MM1.

Facilitated by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), this satellite is poised to revolutionise the country’s communication infrastructure and enhance various IT sectors.

Launched on May 30 by the Pakistan National Space Agency (SUPARCO) and entering its designated orbit on June 5, PAKSAT MM1 is positioned at an altitude of 38,786 km and at 38.2 degrees East. Weighing five tonnes, the satellite is equipped with advanced communication technology designed to deliver high-speed internet across the nation.

The operational capabilities of PAKSAT MM1 include television broadcasting, community internet access, and tele-education services, all aimed at promoting local industries and improving connectivity, particularly in remote areas.

This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of a Digital Pakistan, striving to enhance internet access nationwide.

Notably, Pakistan has seen a remarkable improvement in its ranking on the United Nations E-Governance Development Index, rising by 14 points from 150 in 2022 to 136 overall. This improvement highlights the country’s commitment to advancing its digital infrastructure.

The solar panels on the satellite have begun functioning, and various tests will be conducted to assess its performance in orbit.

The successful deployment of this satellite is expected to create a transformative impact on the nation’s communication landscape, further solidifying Pakistan’s position in the global space arena.
