GUJRAT: As the road closure across Punjab has created problems for daily commuters, it has also affected the marraiges as two separate groom’s wedding processions (Baraat) returned from Chenab toll plaza.

The wedding processions coming from Sialkot and Gujranwala were forced to stop at the Chenab toll plaza, located between Gujrat and Gujranwala on Grand Trunk (GT) Road.

The authorities have closed the road by placing containers ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Islamabad protest, scheduled for November 24 (Sunday).

Later, Baraats which were going towards Gujarat and Jhelum returned after waiting for several hours.

In a separate development, an ambulance carrying the dead body was also stopped at the Chenab toll plaza. However, after the pleas from the deceased family, the police allowed the ambulance to go.

In another incident, a patient died in the ambulance after being denied crossing the Jhelum River bridge due to road blockage.

According to the details, the ambulance was heading towards the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) in Jhelum from Sarai Alamgir for emergency treatment. But it was stopped at the bridge and police refused to allow it to cross.
