LAHORE: The organisers of Aurat March Lahore announced that this year’s demonstration will be held on February 12, 2025, on the occasion of Pakistan’s National Women’s Day.
Earlier, the annual Aurat March was to be held on International Women’s Day on March 8.
This year our theme, “Feminist History,” will pay tribute to our local feminist icons and movements, past & present, the Aurat March Lahore announced on its official Instagram account.
This year’s demonstration will honour the courageous women and khwajasira who took part in movements such as the Sindhiani Tehreek’s struggle against feudalism, those like the Women Action Forum (WAF) who stood against Zia ul Haq’s fascist & oppressive regime, and the women of the labour movement.
“In 2025, so much has changed because of the feminists that came before us, yet much has remained the same. We continue our fight against draconian laws curbing our right to liberty & freedom of speech,” the statement read.
The organisers of the much-anticipated march said that today Baloch women defiantly lead the feminist movement. “The women in Waak Tehreek are creating a space for themselves in the Pakhtun movement. We want to place a spotlight on this overlooked history of determination and defiance.”
This’s years Aurat March will honours the past and celebrate the present of Pakistan’s feminist history.
The statement urged people to join them on February 12, to mark the 1983’s historic protest on Lahore’s Mall Road when women faced baton charges for protesting against Zia’s discriminatory evidence law.
