Senior jounalist Javed Chaudhry has claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan could face setback in £190 million case.
In a TV program, Rubaroo, the journalist said that the delay in the 190 million pound case verdict is due to some individuals who have no connection with Imran Khan.
Javed Chaudhry also said that the negotiation process is lengthy, but at this moment, everyone is looking at the newly-elected US President, Donald Trump.
He also highlighted Pakistan-US relations, saying that neither can Pakistan survive without the US nor can the US ignore Pakistan.
Sher Afzal Marwat about Imran Khan
Earlier, PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat said that Imran could face a sentence in the £190 million reference case.
He highlighted that the trial for the case, which has lasted a year, is nearing completion, but he stressed that any potential sentence for Imran khan should not affect ongoing negotiations.
It is pertinent to mention that the verdict of this case will be announced on January 13th.
Backstory
This is the second time the verdict for this case has been postponed. On December 18, the court reserved its verdict after the defence wrapped its reasoning, saying the verdict would be announced on Dec 23.
Then while presiding over the hearing on Dec 23, the judge postponed the hearing till Jan 6 owing to the court going on winter vacation from Dec 24 to Jan 1.
The reference filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) alleged that Imran, who is currently in jail, played a “pivotal role in the illicit transfer of funds meant for the state of Pakistan into an account designated for the payment of land by Bahria Town, Karachi”. It also claimed that despite being given multiple opportunities to justify and provide information, the accused deliberately, with mala fide intention, refused to give information on one pretext or another.
Property tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain and his son Ahmed Ali Riaz, Mirza Shehzad Akbar, and Zulfi Bukhari are also among the suspects in this reference, but instead of joining the investigation and subsequent court proceedings, they absconded and were subsequently declared proclaimed offenders.
