WEBDESK: Skardu has recorded the coldest temperature across the country today, with the mercury dipping to -13°C.
Skardu and surrounding areas are experiencing the second snowfall of the winter season, with intermittent snowfall continuing since last night.
Leh, Astor, and Gilgit also recorded minimum temperatures of -8°C. Other areas including Quetta and Hunza saw temperatures of -6°C, Kalat at -7°C, Dir at -4°C, and Chitral at -3°C. In Sidu Sharif, Malam Jabba, and other areas, temperatures reached -2°C.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, up to 3 inches of snow has fallen in the plains of Skardu and about 1 foot in the higher regions.
The snowfall has caused a significant drop in temperatures, with the plains reaching -13°C and the higher areas experiencing -18°C.
Due to the snowfall, around 90% of the upper regions have lost their land connectivity with Skardu, and flights by the national airline have also been canceled. The weather department has forecasted that the snowfall will continue intermittently for the next 24 hours.
The heavy snow has affected daily life in the Baltistan division, with the Skardu-Gilgit road being blocked due to a landslide caused by the snow. In Astor, the continuous snowfall has disrupted normal activities, and the region is facing challenges in transportation. The ongoing snow in the Neelum Valley is also affecting daily life, as temperatures continue to drop across the region.
