KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared December 27 a public holiday to commemorate the 17th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, a trailblasing leader who broke barriers as Pakistan’s first female prime minister and the first woman to lead a Muslim-majority country.
Thus all government and semi-government offices in Sindh will be vacated on this day but banks will function normally. The holiday intends to facilitate the people of Sindh in remembering and paying homage to the immortal legacy that Benazir Bhutto, as a martyr, has passed on to this nation by her senseless assassination on December 27, 2007.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), controlled by the Bhutto family, has arranged various events across the country to pay national tribute to Benazir Bhutto. Some of these include:
- Rallies and Memorial Services: To commemorate the life and legacy of Benazir Bhutto
- Gathering and prayer sessions: To recognise her leadership, vision, and sacrifices for Pakistan
- Garhi Khuda Bakhsh to hold special event: The prime event will take place in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, the ancestral home of the Bhutto family, where discussions and ceremonies attract the memory of Benazir Bhutto.
