SBP announces bank holiday on January 1

ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has declared a holiday in all private banks and financial institutions on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

According to the notification issued on Saturday, all banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) will remain closed for public dealing on January 1.

The central bank clarified that while banks will not be accessible to the public on this date, all employees will report to work as per usual office hours.

The announcement is part of routine annual procedures as financial institutions prepare for the start of the new calendar year.

Earlier, the banks remained closed on December 25 in observance of Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas.

“All banks, microfinance banks, and development finance institutions will remain closed in observance of the public holiday. Normal banking operations will resume on Thursday, December 26,” it added.
