WEB DESK: The ongoing cold wave in Pakistan is expected to intensify further, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicting widespread rain and snowfall across various regions of the country starting December 7.
As indicated by the PMD forecast, the cold wave, most likely lasting between the 8th and the 14th of December, will afford much relief from smog for areas under conditions in Punjab.
The weather department further warned, during this period, of a noticeable dip in temperatures with day temperatures expected to fall anywhere between four and six degrees Celsius below normal in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Declines in temperatures are expected to be sharper at five to seven degrees Celsius below normal in Balochistan and Sindh.
Areas pelted to get rain and snowfall
According to the Met Office, several parts of Pakistan will witness predicted moderate rain, followed by thunderstorms and snowfalls over the mountains, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Astore, Ghizer, Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Haveli, Bagh, and other regions between December 7 and 11, with occasional breaks.
Light to moderate snowfall is also expected over the hills and light rain will be expected in Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, and Jhang on December 7 and 8.
Advisory released for the farmers, citizens, and travelers
The PMD has issued authorities and the citizens with several advisories. The farmers will now be able to properly schedule their affairs without much problem of frost even during the months of winter. Most of the citizens will be avoiding outdoor environments when cold winds blow.
