WEBDESK: The Punjab Police has completed its security plan to ensure law and order on New Year’s Eve.

According to a police spokesperson, over 25,000 officers and personnel will be deployed across the province, including 395 inspectors, 1,125 sub-inspectors, 2,060 assistant sub-inspectors, 1,310 head constables, and 18,759 constables.

In Lahore alone, more than 5,000 officers will be on duty. Activities across the city and province will be closely monitored using CCTV cameras.

Inspector General (IG) of Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, has directed the police to remain on high alert and maintain a strict watch on anti-social elements.

The IG has strictly prohibited activities like one-wheeling, aerial firing, and rowdiness. He stated that anyone causing trouble, harassing citizens, or engaging in illegal activities will face strict action and be detained.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, Dr Usman Anwar has instructed traffic authorities to deploy additional personnel and improve coordination. Specialised units, including Dolphin Squad, Perus, Elite Force, and Punjab Highway Patrol, will intensify patrolling on roads and highways. Regular search and sweep operations will also be conducted in all major cities.

The police will take preventive measures, including securing bonds from individuals previously involved in one-wheeling or aerial firing. Citizens are encouraged to report any violations, including illegal weapon displays and aerial firing, by calling the police helpline at 15.

Senior officers, including the CCPO Lahore, RPOs, and DPOs, will personally oversee the implementation of the security arrangements. The government has also urged citizens to cooperate with the police and ensure a peaceful celebration of the New Year.
