LAHORE: The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has ensured the installation of emission control systems in 96% of industries in Lahore to tackle air pollution.

EPA has sealed 21 industrial units for failing to comply with environmental regulations.

The Punjab Environmental Protection Department has set up 25 AQI (Air Quality Index) monitoring stations across various cities, with work underway on 35 more stations.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb highlighted that between March 27 and December 27, the EPA inspected 2,883 industrial units in Lahore, issuing notices to 860 of them.

As part of the campaign, violators have been fined a total of 45.6 million rupees, 105 FIRs have been registered, and 56 industrial units have been dismantled for non-compliance.

Minister Aurangzeb emphasised the need for public and private sector collaboration to combat pollution.

Industries have been given time to install emission control systems and are receiving financial support to adopt eco-friendly technology. A joint strategy with industrialists has been formulated to improve environmental standards.

Efforts to combat pollution have been intensified in response to recent smog episodes in Lahore and other cities.

The government is ensuring compliance with environmental laws in Lahore’s industrial zones and seeking cooperation from private enterprises to address the issue effectively.
