Punjab Police have arrested 11,787 individuals and registered 11,177 cases this year in an extensive crackdown on the illegal kite flying business across the province. The operation is aimed at curbing the use of dangerous metallic strings, which have been linked to serious injuries and fatalities.
A police spokesperson, speaking on Wednesday, underscored that the force is actively working to protect human lives by enforcing the Anti-Kite Flying Act. The crackdown, which is being conducted without interruption, spans all districts in the province, including Lahore.
Thousands of kites and strings confiscated
During the ongoing illegal kite flying crackdown, police have recovered over 34,000 metallic strings and 500,000 kites. In Lahore alone, 2,633 suspects were apprehended, and 2,570 cases were registered under the Anti-Kite Flying Act. From these arrests, 2,301 metallic strings and over 50,000 kites were confiscated.

The spokesman reiterated that the police are committed to eliminating the illegal trade and use of metallic strings, which pose significant dangers to the public.
Police Chief orders stern action
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify the crackdown. He stressed the need for strict legal action against those involved in the production, sale, and use of metallic strings and kites, ensuring compliance with the law throughout the province.
