LAHORE: The Punjab government restricted pension benefits to the spouses of deceased government employees, as announced in a notification issued by the provincial finance department on Tuesday.
According to the new rules, no longer will it be extended to the children, parents, or siblings of the deceased employee. This deviation from the previous guidelines, which allowed wider adoption by other family members to claim pension benefits, has taken place as per the 24 News report.
To make the administration of pensions more efficient and to maximise the use of available resources, it raised many fingers pointing to it for sterling concern as an argument to exempt a vulnerable dependent from the financial clutches of government.
More details regarding the implementation of the policy and its effect on stakeholders will be forthcoming in the weeks to follow.
