LAHORE: In a positive step toward the promotion of education, the Punjab government has introduced new options for students to pursue matriculation, with the addition of three additional groups.
According to the details, the School Education Department Punjab has notified the addition of three new groups alongside Matric Science and Matric Arts.
The students will have the option to pursue their matriculation in Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, and Fashion Designing from the academic session 2025-26. The department has also released the subject lists for these new groups.
According to the education department spokesperson, the initiative to offer diverse subject courses has been launched under the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
The School Education Department has directed Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and District Education Officers (DEOs) to gather data regarding the preferences of students for the current academic session. It will help with the printing of textbooks for the new groups, considering the number of enrolled students.
Apart from that, the education department has increased the marks of Islamic and Pak Studies to 100 in the new academic year 2025 as earlier both subjects were 50 marks each.
In this connection, the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PTBB) has published the new syllabus-based textbooks of Islamic and Pakistan Studies.
Furthermore, the official said that a 100-mark Islamic Studies exam will be taken in the ninth grade, while a 100-mark exam of Pakistan Studies will be taken in matriculation.
