LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced a free solar panel scheme, with the registration deadline set for January 5, 2025.
This program was launched by Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz, on 6 December 2024.
The solar panels and inverters provided through this scheme will be linked to the user’s CNIC to ensure transparency and facilitate easier monitoring.
Under the scheme, 100,000 solar systems will be distributed within the next year. Consumers with monthly electricity usage of up to 100 units will receive 550-watt solar systems, while those using up to 200 units will be provided with 1100-watt solar systems.
This initiative aims to substantially lower electricity bills for eligible consumers while promoting environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 57,000 tons annually.
Here are the eligibility criteria, registration process, and other details.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for this scheme, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Monthly electricity usage should be between 0 and 200 units.
- The approved electricity load should not exceed 2 kW.
- Eligibility will be assessed based on electricity bills from June 2024.
However, individuals involved in electricity theft or those who missed three or more bill payments last year will not be eligible for this program.
Registration Process:
Applicants can register by sending their CNIC number via SMS to 8800. The selection of eligible individuals will be done through a computerised system.
The government will verify applications by cross-checking reference numbers and CNICs with electricity bill records.
