WEBDESK: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Saturday that the internet service disruptions in the country have been resolved.
This comes after the incorporation of temporary bandwidth into the system to address the issues caused by a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable near Qatar.
The PTA further said that they have been actively monitoring the restoration efforts of the AAE-1 cable, one of the seven undersea cables connecting Pakistan to international internet traffic.
They assured that internet services have returned to normal and that the situation is under control.
The issue began earlier in January due to a technical fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable, which connects the country to international internet traffic. As a result, Pakistan, along with several other countries, has been facing slower internet speeds.
This affected millions of users, particularly freelancers who depend heavily on stable internet connections
Last year, Pakistan faced the same problem due to faults in submarine cables. At that time, the authorities addressed the issue by citing the use of firewalls as the reason for the slowdowns.
Pakistan has topped the global list for financial losses caused by internet disruptions and social media app outages in the last year, 2024.
According to the Top 10 VPN report, Pakistan suffered a total financial loss of $1.62 billion, topping the chart.
The report also claimed that global internet disruptions accumulated to 88,788 hours, leading to a total loss of $7.69 billion.
Pakistan is set to enhance its internet speeds and connectivity by joining the 2 Africa submarine cable network, which is expected to go live in the country by Q4 2025.
