The Punjab Cabinet has approved major changes to the Kite Flying (Prohibition) Act of 2007, according to a Punjab Home Department spokesperson.

Under the new amendments, kite flying, kite-making, and transporting kites and related materials like metallic strings are classified as non-bailable offenses.

Moreover, offenders could face imprisonment of three to five years, a fine up to PKR 2 million, or both, with an additional year of imprisonment for non-payment of the fine.

Penalties for those involved in kite manufacturing or transportation are more severe, with imprisonment ranging from five to seven years and fines up to PKR 5 million. Failure to pay the fine could result in an extra two years in prison.

Minors caught flying kites will receive a warning for their first offense, a PKR 50,000 fine for a second offense, and a PKR 100,000 fine for a third violation.
