ISLAMABAD: A police constable has died and over 70 officials were severely injured as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters clashed with police officers outside Islamabad on Monday.

Constable Mubashir, 46, died after protesters allegedly attacked police personnel near Hakla. The injured officer was rushed to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Hassan Abdal, where he succumbed to injuries.

Mubashir, who was stationed with the Rawalpindi police and hailed from Muzaffargarh, is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.

“One police officer was shot and killed and at least 70 others were injured in clashes near Attock,” provincial Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said in a press conference, adding that about 80 PTI protestors had been arrested.

Bukhari has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is planning to stage May 9-like violent protests in the country. “They [PTI] want May 9 Part-II.”

The Interior Minister visited the injured officers at the hospital, extending condolences to the deceased official’s family. “Constable Mubashir achieved martyrdom in the line of duty. The government stands with his family in this time of grief, and all perpetrators will face legal consequences,” he added.
