PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to arrest the accused involved in Saturday’s shooting on an aid convoy in the Bagan area en route to Parachinar.

After the attack, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur chaired an emergency meeting and reviewed the law and order situation in Kurram that has been hit by clashes in recent weeks.

The meeting condemned the attack on the convoy that left at least five people including a deputy commissioner of the district Javed Ullah Mehsud injured and termed it a violation of the peace agreement.

It was decided in the meeting that those involved in the incident should be arrested immediately.

It was the responsibility of the peace committee to restore peace after the agreement between the warring sides.

It was decided in the meeting that head money would be fixed for those involved in militancy, no concession would be made to any militant, and neither would those who support them be spared.

After the Bagan shooting, the departure of a convoy carrying relief supplies for the Kurram district was stopped.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that the firing on government vehicles in Lower Kurram is a conspiracy to sabotage the peace agreement.

Kurram, a district of around 600,000 people, has been rocked by tribal clashes since Nov. 21 when gunmen attacked a convoy of passengers that left at least 52 people including women dead.

The deadly attack sparked further violence and a blockade of a main road connecting Kurram’s main town of Parachinar with Peshawar. The blockade caused medicine, food and fuel shortages in the area.

Under the agreement, both sides had agreed to demolish bunkers and the handover of heavy weapons to the authorities within two weeks.

The attack again caused a first aid convoy spearheading the deputy commissioner.

The KP government spokesperson Barrister Saif said that the aid convoy will be dispatched soon after receiving clearance.
