KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted one or two spells of heavy rain in Karachi from August 4 to 7. This comes as the port city experienced drizzling and light to moderate rain on Thursday and Friday.

The PMD indicated that the effects of the monsoon system will become apparent starting Friday, with light to torrential rain showers expected. Rainfall amounts between 40mm to 60mm are anticipated in various parts of the city, with some areas potentially seeing up to 100mm during the upcoming spell.

The weather office also forecasted rain showers for Saturday, August 5. Previously, the PMD had predicted moderate to torrential rains in Karachi from August 3 to 5.

Heavy rain showers already struck Karachi on Wednesday night, inundating low-lying areas. Parts of the city, including Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Baldia Town, Defence, and North Karachi, received intermittent showers.

In addition, the Met Office warned that strong monsoon winds from Rajasthan and the Arabian Sea are expected to affect the region starting Friday, potentially leading to rain showers and lightning across different areas of Sindh.

The Met Office also highlighted the risk of flooding in Sindh’s low-lying areas and possible flooding in Kirthar and rivers and nullahs in Balochistan’s mountainous regions. Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Jamshoro are at risk of flash floods due to the heavy rains.
