WEBDESK:Karachi experienced its first winter rain of the season on Saturday morning, resulting in a drop in temperature, which is expected to last for a week.

Light rain is reported in several different areas, including Gulshan-e-Maymar, Baldia Town, Orangi Town, North Nazimabad, and surrounding areas. Central Karachi also saw drizzle in key locations like Guru Mandir, M.A. Jinnah Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Shahrah-e-Faisal. The northern outskirts, including Hub Chowki, were not left out, with similar weather conditions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted partly cloudy weather for the day, leading to further drops in temperature.

The drizzle began early in the morning and continued in several prominent areas such as Federal B Area, Numaish Chowrangi, Dalmia, Shanti Nagar, Scheme 33, and University Road.

While the rain brought a chill to the air, air quality in Karachi remained a major concern. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached a “very unhealthy” level of 257, according to Swiss air quality monitor IQAir. The concentration of harmful fine particles, known as PM2.5, was recorded at 182 µg/m³, which is significantly higher than the recommended safety levels by the World Health Organization.

With the cold spell settling in, Karachi residents are advised to keep warm and stay updated on the weather conditions.

PMD also warns of foggy conditions in the mornings, which could disrupt air and road travel.

People are advised to take precautions while driving in fog and to check weather forecasts before traveling.

Rain was also reported in Kohlu and nearby areas.

Furthermore, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Bannu also received showers, whereas intermittent snowfall has been reported in Gilgit’s Diamir, Babusar Top, and Nanga Parbat.
