Govt jacks up power prices again

WEB DESK: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority had approved an increase of Rs 1.45 per unit, accepting the request of the Power Division authorities.

According to NEPRA sources, consumers will be charged for August, September, and October.

Electricity companies had requested a third quarterly adjustment of Rs 24-2023 in the third quarter of 2023 and had sought Rs 31 billion 34 crore in capacity charges.

Furthermore, sources say that Rs 5 billion 57 crore was sought for operation and maintenance cost adjustment, and Rs 12 billion 38 crore was sought for transmission and distribution impact on monthly fuel cost adjustment.

It is worth mentioning that before this, Nepra had completed the hearing on the request of electricity companies for the quarterly adjustment.
