The government has imposed an 18% General Sales Tax on certain medications.

This tax affects essential drugs, including pain relievers, multivitamins, calcium supplements, milk powder, sugar test strips, and herbal medicines.

Patients, especially the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses are struggling to afford their medications, often reducing their purchases to just one or two days’ worth.

Moreover, the President of the Drug Pakistan Lawyers Forum, Noor Mehr, condemned the tax, stating it violates the Drug Act, which exempts these types of products from taxation.
