ISLAMABAD: The federal government has reversed its decision to suspend the passports of Pakistanis seeking asylum abroad. This decision came after a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, which focused on the welfare of overseas Pakistanis.
The meeting, attended by the Foreign Secretary, Home Secretary, Director General of Immigration and Passport, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed various issues concerning the timely issuance of passports to Pakistanis living abroad.
Participants were briefed on the importance of ensuring that passports are issued promptly. Following discussions, it was decided to immediately withdraw the circular that had suspended the passports of asylum seekers.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar was informed by relevant authorities that passports for overseas Pakistanis will now be issued within 60 days.
This decision reverses the policy announced by the Federal Ministry of Interior on June 11, which had stated that passports would not be issued to Pakistanis seeking asylum abroad.
