Amid ongoing inflation, the price of chicken in Punjab has surged once more. Poultry dealers have confirmed an increase of Rs 37 per kilogram, pushing the new price to Rs 421 per kilogram.
The dealers have blamed the hike on rising taxes. This increase follows a brief period in May when chicken prices in Lahore fell by Rs 39 per kilogram, lowering the rate to Rs 416 per kilogram.
During that period, chicken prices had dropped by Rs 259 per kilogram over three weeks.
Punjab Announces New Flour Prices
In addition to the chicken price hike, flour mill owners have announced a strike on July 11 to protest the imposition of a 2.5 percent withholding tax in the 2024-25 budget. The flour mill owners stated that they are already struggling with increasing electricity bills, which are making it difficult to sustain their businesses.
“The additional 2.5 percent withholding tax will further ruin our business,” the mill owners said. They are demanding that the government withdraw its decision to impose the tax.
