Pakistan Railways has increased ticket prices for economy class passengers by 10 to 50 percent, despite a recent reduction in petroleum prices.

The fare hike will significantly impact passengers, particularly those traveling on routes from Karachi to Hyderabad, Tando Adam, Tando Jam, and Kotri.

Furthermore, the fares for economy class on trains running between Lahore and Sialkot, Narowal, Narang Mandi, and Faisalabad to Rawalpindi have also been revised.

For shorter routes up to 250 km, the fare increase ranges between 10 to 20 percent. This move comes just days after railway authorities announced a 10 percent cut in fares for express and passenger trains across various classes, including Business, AC Sleeper, and Economy.

The sudden fare rise is expected to add to the financial burden of citizens, already grappling with inflation.
