Pakistan names squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, just a day before the May 25 deadline.

Among the notable names in the squad are Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Rizwan, and Fakhar Zaman, all set to represent Pakistan in the tournament slated to kick off in the United States and West Indies from June 1.

This World Cup will mark the debut for players like Saim Ayub, Abrar Ahmed, Usman Khan, Azam Khan, and Abbas Afridi in T20 cricket. Additionally, it will see Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim returning to the tournament after absences since 2016 and 2021, respectively.

The announcement did not include any reserves for the squad.

Player Support Personnel:

The PCB also revealed the player support personnel for the team, which includes senior team manager Wahab Riaz, head coach Gary Kirsten, and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, among others.

In a press release, the PCB stated, “This is an extremely talented and balanced side that has a mixture of youth and experience. These players have been playing together for some time and look well prepared and settled for next month’s event.”

Pakistan is placed in Group A alongside India, Ireland, Canada, and the United States. The schedule for Pakistan’s matches is as follows:

– June 6: Pakistan vs USA, Dallas
– June 9: Pakistan vs India, New York
– June 11: Pakistan vs Canada, New York
– June 16: Pakistan vs Ireland, Lauderhill

Groups for T20 World Cup 2024:

– Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, United States
– Group B: England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, Oman
– Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea
