MANSEHRA: A mother of three was killed by a bear in the Jagan area of Balakot, sparking urgent calls from residents for action to address the growing bear threat in the region.

The tragic incident occurred on May 24, while the woman was farming. Despite being swiftly transported to King Abdullah Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.

Local reports indicate that bear attacks are becoming more frequent in the area. Family members and relatives have registered a case with the police, seeking accountability from local authorities. Balakot DSP Cadet Farooq assured the family that the police would hold the relevant department officials responsible.

Experts suggest that the ongoing heatwave might be driving bears into human settlements in search of food, leading to increased encounters.

Meanwhile, wildlife authorities are being urged to take immediate measures to safeguard residents and ensure that wildlife has adequate food and water, aiming to prevent further tragedies.
