Miftah Ismail to file petition against K-Electric

Awaam Pakistan Party leader Miftah Ismail announced plans to file a petition against K-Electric, citing a 350% rise in electricity rates since 2015.

Speaking at a protest outside K-Electric’s head office, Ismail criticised the current government’s handling of electricity tariffs, which he says heavily burden ordinary citizens.

Ismail highlighted that while the Pakistan People’s Party had promised 300 free units of electricity, the reality has been quite different. He questioned the government’s policy on electricity pricing, pointing out that citizens’ salaries haven’t increased by 350%.

Moreover, arguing that no one should receive free electricity if ordinary citizens don’t, Ismail expressed confidence in the media to present the common man’s struggles and the government’s stance. He also questioned why load shedding doesn’t reduce bills, suggesting that bills should be lower during power outages.

Additionally, Ismail criticised the government’s fiscal policies, noting a 37% tax on commercial electricity usage and increased government expenditures. He urged the government to avoid imposing additional taxes on domestic consumers.
