Majid shared the story, explaining that during a program organised by Amjad  in the Indian city of Jhansi, an area notorious for dacoits, the attendees did not allow his father to leave after the event ended. They insisted on additional performances, causing a delay of three hours and pushing their return journey late into the night.

“My father had a flight scheduled back to Lahore that night, so he had to leave the same evening,” Majid continued. “During their return, they stopped at a tea stall and heard his grandfather’s famous qawwali, ‘Bhar Do Jholi,’ playing on the radio. The phrase ‘fill up your bags,’ was already resonating.”

Tragically, on June 22, 2016, corresponding to Ramazan 16, Amjad Sabri’s life was cut short when unknown assailants opened fire on him in Karachi. He was shot in the head and died as a result of the attack.
