Alia Bhatt’s highly anticipated film Jigra premiered on October 11, 2024, but its initial reception has been lukewarm. Despite the hype, the film earned a modest Rs3.58 crore on its opening day, facing tough competition from Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and the Tamil film Vettaiyan.
While audiences seemed divided, critics also offered mixed reviews of the film, leaving its box office prospects uncertain in the coming days.
Adding to the speculation, actress Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken views, shared a cryptic Instagram story that many believe was directed at Alia Bhatt and her latest project.

Kangana Ranaut’s subtle dig at Alia Bhatt?
Kangana Ranaut took to Instagram with a post about “woman-centric films,” which stirred conversations online. Fans and netizens speculated that the cryptic message was a thinly veiled jab at Alia Bhatt, given the timing of the post and the ongoing release of Jigra.
Ranaut’s history of criticising Bhatt adds fuel to the assumption, as she has previously expressed disdain for some of Alia’s high-profile performances.
In the past, Kangana has taken sharp aim at Alia’s roles in Gully Boy and Gangubai Kathiawadi. When her performance in Gully Boy was compared to Alia’s, Kangana responded with biting criticism, dismissing it as “Bollywood’s idea of a fiery girl” and calling the performance “embarrassing.” She further accused the industry of pampering “mediocre work.”
Kangana Ranaut’s criticism spree
Kangana’s criticism of Alia Bhatt isn’t new. Before the release of Gangubai Kathiawadi, she posted a scathing remark on social media, targeting not only Bhatt but also director Karan Johar and other influential figures in Bollywood. In the post, she predicted the film’s box office failure, calling Bhatt “a romcom bimbo” and questioning her casting in the lead role.
“The biggest drawback of the film is wrong casting,” Kangana wrote, adding that Bollywood’s “movie mafia” would continue to make poor choices, leading to its downfall as South Indian and Hollywood films gained ground.
As Jigra begins its run in cinemas, it remains to be seen how Alia Bhatt’s latest venture will perform amid competition and industry tensions.
