WEB DESK: Anant Ambani, son of Mukesh Ambani and heir to Asia’s richest business empire, has once again captured global attention with his extraordinary taste in luxury. Recently, Anant was spotted wearing the Richard Mille RM 52-04 Skull Blue Sapphire, one of the rarest and most expensive timepieces in the world, valued at a staggering Rs2.3 billion (USD 2.6 million).
The unique watch houses a skull-and-crossbones theme, inspired a lot by pirates. The entire watch comprises: One single block of sapphire by the legendary Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille. It also has a skull as the heart of the movement, visible through the transparent case back in sapphire.
No less than three pieces have been made of the RM 52-04, and they are part of an ultra-exclusive collection. Experts have termed this piece a marvel of horology and a true icon of art and technical perfection. “Owning such a piece is rare, but seeing it in person is an even rarer privilege,” commented a luxury watch analyst.
Anant Ambani is, indeed, known to have a full castle collection of high-end Swiss watches, including pieces from Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, among others. This collection also includes the RM 52-04-another jewel in the crown that makes him a connoisseur of luxe.
The Instagram page titled “Indian Horology” posted the watch, and it instantly stirred up excitement on social media for its craftsmanship and fabulous price. The watch is made of sapphire, a material requiring exactness in modeling, to piece together the ‘bones’ linking the movement up to the case-something evoking the symbolism of a pirate’s flag.
