The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has announced that Saturday, October 19, 2024, will be a mandatory working day for all Islamabad model schools and colleges, both in urban and rural areas.

This decision is centred on addressing the academic shortfall resulting from the suspension of classes during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) activities held earlier this month.

Aim to recover lost instructional time

The working day is intended to ensure that the academic calendar remains on track and that students can complete the syllabus within the allocated time.

The FDE has directed all schools under its jurisdiction to conduct make-up classes on this day to recover the lost instructional hours and proceed with other planned academic activities.

The notification was issued with the formal approval of Dr Tabassum Naz, Director of Schools at the FDE, who highlighted the importance of compensating for the disruption caused by the SCO event.

Impact on students and staff

The move has been welcomed as a proactive step to maintain the academic flow and ensure that students are not disadvantaged due to unforeseen disruptions. Educational institutions are expected to strictly adhere to the directive and make necessary adjustments to their schedules for the day.
