An IndiGo flight from Pune to Bengaluru faced a five-hour delay after the pilot refused to fly, citing completion of duty hours.
The incident, which occurred on September 24, 2024, has gained widespread attention on social media after a video of frustrated passengers went viral. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 12:45 am, eventually took off at 5:44 am, landing in Bengaluru at 6:49 am.
The viral video shows nearly 200 passengers expressing anger and disbelief at being stranded on the aircraft for hours without refreshments or compensation.
In the footage, passengers are seen confronting the cabin crew, demanding an explanation from the pilot, who is shown closing the cockpit door without addressing their concerns. One frustrated passenger can be heard saying, “I think you should grow up. Sir, can you come out?”

Public backlash and IndiGo’s response
Social media users reacted strongly to the video, with many criticizing IndiGo for its handling of the situation. One user commented, “Shame on the management of @IndiGo6E. People are suffering from this dominant domestic airline. Action needs to be taken.” Others echoed concerns about the deteriorating quality of customer service on domestic flights.
IndiGo responded to the public outcry by issuing a statement explaining the delay was due to “operational reasons related to flight duty time limitations.” The airline stressed that passengers had been informed about the delay and that staff were available to assist throughout. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.
