Legendary Pakistani captain Imran Khan has extended praise to the Afghanistan cricket team for their remarkable performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Led by Rashid Khan, Afghanistan reached the semi-finals of an ICC event for the first time in this tournament, marking a historic achievement.

Despite their inspiring journey, Afghanistan’s dream was cut short as they faced a defeat against South Africa, who clinched victory by nine wickets. Despite this outcome, the cricketing community has universally applauded Afghanistan for their incredible efforts, including Imran Khan who also conveyed his congratulations.

In a statement, the 1992 World Cup-winning captain highlighted the team’s spirit and determination throughout the tournament.

He praised their positive attitude and unwavering commitment to the game, noting that their performance serves as a source of inspiration for future achievements.

“I would like to congratulate the Afghan National team on their brilliant performance in the ongoing Twenty20 Cricket World Cup,” he said.

“The spirit with which they fought their way to the semi-finals is indeed praiseworthy, which also speaks of their positive attitude and total commitment to the cause of the game,” Khan added.

“They fought their hearts out and were unlucky not to go through to the finals. I am sure this performance will prove to be a precursor to many laurels they would bring to their country. I wish them all the best for the future,” wrote Imran Khan on his social media account.
