Multan and its surrounding areas witnessed a historic 145mm of rainfall on Tuesday, shattering a 48-year-old record. Intense storms with strong winds, thunder, and lightning struck Multan, leading to the highest recorded rainfall since 1976.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) reported that dark clouds blanketed the city and surrounding areas on Tuesday afternoon, causing daytime to resemble night before a heavy downpour ensued.

The most significant rainfall in Multan was recorded in areas including Chungi No. 9, Rasheedabad, Chowk Kumharanwala, and several others. According to WASA officials, the previous record for Multan was 134.5mm, set in 1976. However, on Tuesday, rainfall reached 147mm at the Chungi No. 9 Disposal Station, breaking the nearly 50-year-old record.

The Meteorological Department reported that the airport and surrounding areas received 83mm of rain. The department has also forecasted additional rain in various locations over the next two days, while temperatures in Multan peaked at 33.2°C on Tuesday.
