Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif stated on Saturday said that the government will not allow the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold a protest in Islamabad during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
The PTI has announced plans to stage a protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad on October 15, coinciding with the first day of the SCO summit, which will see the participation of various heads of government. As a result, security measures in the capital have been tightened to ensure a smooth and secure event.
PTI leader, Ali Muhammad Khan, has also opposed his party’s call for protest on October 15th during the SCO summit.
Security situation in Islamabad ahead of SCO
Security is extremely tight ahead of the SCO summit, as many routes/roads are closed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Earlier, an order was issued to close restaurants, wedding halls, cafes, and snooker clubs in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for five days.
However, the district administration later clarified that no orders have been issued by either the federal government or the district authorities regarding the closure of wedding halls, restaurants, or cafes.
The government has already declared a three-day public holiday—October 14-16—in the twin cities to ensure the smooth conduct of the SCO summit.
